The boy sitting in the park

There’s a boy sitting on the bench in that park I visit often. He is reading his newspaper with utmost attention with a strand of his hair falling upon his eye causing distraction. He has bushy eyebrows and his hands appear small. If looked at carefully, his nails have been bitten to bits. The way he reads the newspaper, isn’t the way most people do,since most people wish to gather knowledge, whereas he wishes something completely different.

What’s the worst that happens to a person? It’s times when you’ve got nowhere to go, no place to call home,no place to provide you with shelter,to protect you from the tyrant. What happened to him ? Vagrancy.

His world Is devastated, and he does nothing, but simply stares at it.

He lifts up his eyes and his gaze meets mine.I can only perceive feelings of ineptitude and a state of vacancy, something he’s desperately trying to modify to adequate, but is somehow unable to.

Within seconds, his eyes go back to reading. He does nothing because somehow he has been convinced that he has got nothing to loose. He doesn’t fear giving up on anything, since there is nothing left to hold on to. He doesn’t fear abandoning his life because there’s no force left in his life resisting him from relinquishing. It’s just that whole big void created right inside him, numbing his insides, making him almost incapable of any emotion. There’s no fear,no sorrow, no joy. And unfortunately, he has become so accustomed to it’s presence inside him that it doesn’t bother him anymore and therefore, he just lets everything remain the way it is- devastated.

Lost in his thoughts, he continues reading, rather staring at the sheets of paper appearing frail and fragile. The sheets, after a while begin to fall, and he,surprisingly, doesn’t do anything to make amends.

I begin walking and knowing I’ve got to reach home. Somewhere at the back of my mind, this “going home” thought satisfies my insides which are restless after seeing him. Even the usual way I take to get back seems more observable and interesting today.
